Using the Solving Circle With an Adlerian and Postmodern Twist: Fostering Relationships With Couples and FamiliesUniversity of North Carolina at Greensboro The solving circle is a technique based on the principles of choice theory designed to help couples and family members communicate more effectively. The central premise is that the relationship takes precedence over individual needs, and couples or family members communicate how each will personally change to make the relationship better. Arguing, blaming, and finger pointing are avoided. This technique is flexible enough to incorporate methods from other therapeutic schools, most notably Adlerian and postmodern approaches. This article describes the solving circle technique and provides a brief case study demonstrating its use.
