Achieving Personal Authority in the Family: An Intergenerational Family and Cognitive Approach for Counseling with AdultsDepartment of Educational Psychology, Texas A & M University, College Station,TX 77843-4225. This article addresses the importance for adults to successfully negotiate the intergenerational family stage of personal authority in the family system. A treatment approach is presented that integrates intergenerationalfamily therapy with cognitive therapy. The assessment process, specific counseling strategies, and a case example are included in this discussion.
