Brief Treatment for Borderline and Narcissistic Couples: Working the Reenactment Spiral

This article develops a brief psychoanalytically informed treatment modelfor borderline and narcissistic couples. Advantages and dis-advantages of brief treatment for this population are explored, followed by treatment principles. The phases of treatment are reviewed with an emphasis on process and interventions. There is an exploration of managing the spiraling escalation of affect and harnessing it tofoster growth. Case material is presentedfor illustration.
