Traumatic Brain Injured Families: Therapeutic Considerations
Idaho State University Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an acquired injury to the head that results in long-tenn and often pennanent physical and emotional disturbances. The purpose of this review is to inform couple and family counselors of the often catastrophic impact of TBI on families. Six research articles containing implicationsfor both therapists and researchers working with TBIfamilies have been reviewed. Specific topics include recovery, effects on marital relationships, role changes, families' needs, predictors of families' functioning and change, and a clinical and research tool.
