Cultural Interpretations of Child Discipline: Voices of African American Scholars

The disciplinary practices of African American parents have been the subject of much debate and commentary in the social science literature. However writings of African American scholars are overlooked in major reviews of child discipline research. The purpose of this article is to review the multiple perspectives ofAfricanAmerican child-rearing experts and to note implications for counseling practice.
