Ethical Considerations in the Use of Technology for Marriage and Family CounselorsColumbus State University, baltimore_michael{at}colstate.edu Given increases in the use of technology in all levels of counseling, family counselors have to become aware of the ethical considerations for infusing technology in their training and practice methods. Standards for Internet counseling practice, supervision practice, and the training of family counselors have not kept pace with the advances in technology. An overview of several ethical standards involving technology is given. Failure to identify problematic issues related to technology use may result in an increase in ethical complaints.
